I can’t begin to tell you how badly I wanted to give this movie 5 Diffies. I was simply amazed by Kung Fu Hustle. I decided to wait a little while before I wrote the review. I felt like I needed to take some time and a step back in order to give a more balanced opinion. In short, the effects (in my mind) were amazing. They might not have been as high quality as some of the bigger budget movies these days, but there was something just… artistic… about them. Sure, some things came off as cheesy (I think that was partly intentional) but the fight scenes were out of this world cool and (for lack of a better phrase) the “weapon effects” just left me floored. If I am to expect this type of quality from all Stephen Chow movies I’m going to track down Shaolin ...

What do you get when you take two of the most attractive looking people in the world and put them together... “Magic?” Well, almost...It’s funny, when I speak to different people regarding this film I always hear the same thing; the men found it entertaining and the ladies disliked it. "Why do all the women seem to come to that conclusion," you ask? Turns out it’s because of one reason and one reason only, “the breakup of Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston.” Most women are so disturbed by Brad and Angelina they don’t even want to give this movie a chance.

I can’t honestly tell you why I rented this movie. I just remember seeing it in the new movies section on Blockbuster Online and then magically it appears in my queue. Just a few days later I’m opening up the envelope and popping this movie in my DVD player. I wasn’t really expecting much from Sky High, figuring it’s going to just be another cheesy kids superhero movie. I know I say this a lot… but I was pleasantly surprised. The movie never really takes itself too seriously yet somehow manages to get its point across in a pretty adult way. Sky High isn’t so much a superhero movie as it is a story about the trials and tribulations of any kid going into high school and trying to fit in with cliques and find out who they actually are. ...

I don’t get it… I’ve seen every Jim Carrey movie out there and he does pretty much the same shtick every time (with maybe a few exceptions). Yet somehow, it’s still funny, I can’t put my finger on it. You’re sitting there watching him and you know you don’t want to laugh, but you find yourself doing it anyway. Can someone please explain that to me? Oh well, on to the movie… I was pleasantly surprised by Fun with Dick and Jane , it was definitely funnier and deeper than I expected. Satire is becoming a lost art in American society and it was great to see it come back if only for a short while here. Dick and Jane (or as the theater I saw this movie at labeled it, "Fun with Dick") ...

There are certain things I think are always funny... Monkies in people's clothing, Monkies doing people things (added bonus if they are in people's clothing), and fart jokes. I may have to add a new item to the list, British slackers killing zombies. I was actually suprised by Shaun of the Dead. I rented it expecting it to help me pass a night of trick-or-treaters not coming to the door. I had heard on the radio and TV when this movie came out that it was good, but those sorts of things I usually take with a grain of salt. I can tell you this... everything I heard about this movie was right. I was literally rolling off my couch and onto the floor during parts of the movie... A feat which hasn't ...
