Are you ready for another rousing adventure through obscure history, hidden compartments, incredible unrealistic situations, and more? Well then kiddies, National Treasure: Book of Secrets is the movie for you. Fortunately (or unfortunately depending upon how you feel about Nicolas Cage) the producers were able to retain all of the key players from the original movie. This really helps add a bit of credibility to this less than inspirational sequel. Does that mean this movie isn’t worth your time? Not necessarily.

Charlie Wilson was a bachelor congressman from Texas who had a habit of showing up in hot tubs with strippers and cocaine. His Good Time Charlie exterior, however, masked an extraordinary mind, a deep sense of patriotism and a passion for the underdog, and in the early 1980s the underdog was Afghanistan--which had just been brutally invaded by the Russians. Charlie''s longtime friend and patron and sometime lover was Joanne Herring, one of the wealthiest women in Texas and a virulent anti-communist. Believing the American response to the Russian invasion was anemic at best, she prods Charlie into doing more for the Mujahideen (Afghan freedom fighters). Charlie''s partner in this uphill endeavor is CIA Agent Gust Avrakotos, a blue-collar operative in a company of Ivy League blue bloods. The Day has finally come, the most anticipated movie release of the winter season is finally upon us. That’s right Will Smith’s new Blockbuster “I am Legend” is finally being shown in theaters. To be honest, I don’t think I’ve looked forward to a movie as much as this one in quite some time. So much so, that I committed the cardinal sin in book to movie conversions… that’s right kids, I read the book before seeing the movie. Now, I will try and do my best to separate these two versions of the story and not to be one of those “Book Snobs”. However, I thought it may be interesting to highlight some of the key differences between the two stories for those fans of the novel that are unsure of seeing this movie.

Where should I begin with a movie like this. Looking from my point of view Hollywood spent hundreds of millions of dollars to produce, advertise and sell this film to the general public and to be honest I fear Hollywood made a big mistake. Does that surprise you? It would be hard for me to imagine them making their money back on a film like this and even if they do know one is going to remember this film 5 years from now unlike Lord of the Rings and some of the other greats which spent a quarter of money The Golden Compass used.

Both Interpol and the Russian military chase the hitman across Eastern Europe as he tries to find out who set him up and why they’re trying to take him out of the game. But the greatest threat to 47’s survival may be the stirrings of his conscience and the unfamiliar emotions aroused in him by a beautiful, damaged girl.
