Ziff Davis files for bankruptcy |
|
Well wouldn't you know it... I just got my first free issue of the Electronic Gaming Monthly magazine in the mail just a few days ago and I end up reading this. According to Bloomberg.com and a few other sources, Ziff Davis Media Inc publisher of Electronic Gaming Monthly and 1up.com has filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy. The article states that Davis had been carrying a debt of about $400 million dollars. The article goes on to to talk about how there is the serious problems facing print magazines in todays market. Online websites, blogs, and other online media outlets are just able report news at a much faster rate...
What do you guys think? Personality I agree, print magazines will always have their place, but let's be honest you can go to twenty different news sites in about 5 minutes using the internet. From what I know about gamers they want their news and they want it fast. Plus most sites are free.. so how in the world can print magazines compete with that? Websites can post videos, screenshots, within minutes of a story breaking... I hate to say it but I think this is just a taste of things to come. What do you guys think?
